Ann Rivers Mack

Biography
Ann Rivers Mack has held the position of Executive Director for Trailnet since 2006. Ms. Mack joined the organization in 2000 to work on the Confluence Greenway initiative and then held the position of Director of Programs from 2004 – 2006. Since taking the director position, Ann has guided Trailnet’s strategic shift from trail-building to its current focus on healthy, active and vibrant communities.
For more than twenty years, Ms. Mack has developed and taught environmental and sustainability courses for Webster University’s graduate school. She currently teaches the Foundations course for Webster’s ‘Education for Global Sustainability’ emphasis area.
Ms. Mack has received numerous awards for her work in the non-profit sector. Most recently, Ann received the 2009 Heroes of the Planet, Sustainable Visionary award from the St. Louis Business Journal.
Ann has two daughters, two step-sons and lives with her husband in Webster Groves. She loves to travel, hike and canoe and on most days, bicycle commutes to and from Trailnet’s downtown office.

Cindy Mense

Biography
Cindy Mense is the Chief Operating Officer of Trailnet and is a registered dietitian with a master’s degree in community nutrition.
For several years Cindy directed the undergraduate dietetics program at Saint Louis University School of Allied Health where she taught pediatric nutrition, community nutrition and basic human nutrition. In 2004, Cindy co-authored a textbook on nutrition for young children.
Cindy joined Trailnet in 2007. Cindy’s team delivers bicycle pedestrian master planning services to local municipalities, walk-to-school programs, outreach and advocacy and community-based active living initiatives.
Josie McDonald

Biography
Josie’s career has been focused on nonprofit management with an emphasis on communications and marketing. In 2006 she took a year off and taught English as a volunteer in Quito, Ecuador.
She is a lifelong St. Louisan and advocates for environmental protection, increased public transportation, quality education, access to health care, and providing development opportunities to disenfranchised citizens. Her healthy active life is fueled by yoga and her love of gardening, cooking - using local, in-season ingredients, and exploring her city neighborhood.
Kay Barnes

Biography
Kay has over twenty years of fundraising experience, all gained at two local universities. She has recently focused on women in philanthropy, in particular women’s giving circles. She helped establish a very successful circle in 2007 that continues to grow, has presented the concept at a conference and has shared her experience with other women’s groups.
Originally from Iowa, Kay is a St. Louis transplant, moving here after living in Germany for ten years. She is the mother of four adult children who share her interests in the environment, exercise, sewing, cooking and gardening. She lives in Brentwood in a house she gut-rehabbed in 2001.

Laura Cohen

Biography
As Director for The Confluence Partnership at Trailnet, Laura coordinates a collaboration of public and non-profit organizations to plan and implement a 200-square mile conservation, heritage and recreation corridor in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
Before coming to Trailnet, Laura served as Special Assistant to the Mayor of the City of St. Louis (1993-97) where her responsibilities included coordinating the public master planning process for Forest Park and facilitating the sale of Columbia Bottom to the Missouri Department of Conservation. She also served as executive director of Missouri NARAL, a state-wide advocacy organization, from 1983-93.
Laura has a B.A. from Hampshire College, Amherst, Massachusetts. She participated in Leadership St. Louis 1994-95 and attended the Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University in 1996.
