The Trailnet Active Living Awards celebrate the Individuals, Communities and Organizations who are engaged in unique and sustainable efforts to incorporate physical activity in everyday living. In 2008, Trailnet presented awards in three categories: Healthy Individuals, Healthy Communities and Healthy Environments.

Healthy Individuals
Nancy Lieberman was honored in 2008 for her significant contributions to the health of individuals as founder and president of GO! St. Louis. Since 2000, Nancy has guided the organization from an upstart marathon weekend event, to an organization that today is a year-round community wellness leader. Nancy has created innovative programs and events that have received national acclaim while inspiring thousands of people of all ages and abilities in the St. Louis area to get fit.

Healthy Communities
Get Healthy DeSoto, a collaborative project in Jefferson County, Missouri led by Debby Campbell, was honored in 2008 for creating significant increases in healthy, active living opportunities for the citizens of DeSoto. Created in 2004 with funding from Union Pacific Railroad, Get Healthy DeSoto has delivered a wide array of impactful programs and physical improvements to remedy growing rates of obesity and inactivity. Roughly 10% of the city’s 19,000 residents are actively enrolled in Get Healthy DeSoto programs.

Healthy Environments
HOK, a venerable fixture of the St. Louis business landscape for 54 years, was honored in 2008 for its work ensuring the health and vitality of the region and the environment. The firm’s commitment to sustainable design, smart growth, and creating healthful connections between people and places, stands as a proud example of corporate leadership.

The 2008 Active Living Awards party was held on September 25 at Alberici Corporation’s Platinum LEED Certified Headquarters building.
