2010 Active Living Award Winners
Trailnet is pleased to announce the 2010 Active Living Award winners:
Individual Award - Paul Wojciechowski
Paul Wojciechowski, P.E., AICP, has been a transportation engineer and planner for more than 27 years. He is currently the vice president and St. Louis area manager for CH2M HILL, where he helps create great places to live, walk, and ride a bike. He is widely regarded as one of the region’s most tireless supporters of bicycling for recreation and transportation. Trailnet honors Paul Wojciechowski for his enthusiasm, expertise, and commitment to making St. Louis a healthier, more bikeable place.
Municipal Award - City of Clayton
The City of Clayton has taken great care to help its citizens maximize physical activity in their daily routines. Completed Clayton projects include a dedicated bicycle lane, replacement of the trail in Oak Knoll Park, sidewalk expansions, and a general reduction of automobile traffic. Trailnet honors the City of Clayton for its highly visible and multi-faceted role in promoting active living.
Nonprofit Award - Team Revolution
Team Revolution is the only nonprofit organization in St. Louis dedicated solely to advocating, educating and promoting cycling for women. Encompassing all styles and levels of bicycling, Team Revolution hosts clinics, rides, and events that attract women from all walks of life. Trailnet honors Team Revolution for its commitment to creating healthy and active lifestyles for women.
Business Award - Alpine Shop
Established in 1973, Alpine Shop gets people into the outdoors under their own power by bike, boat, or their own two feet. A shining example of what a locally-owned retailer can deliver to the community, Alpine Shop hosts a variety of active programs and instructional clinics out of its Kirkwood and Chesterfield retail locations. Trailnet honors Alpine Shop for its long-time commitment to healthy outdoor recreation with this award.
Tom Yarbrough Award - Jim Pona
This award honors the memory of Tom Yarbrough, Trailnet’s Bicycle Fun Club founder, for his vast contributions to the St. Louis cycling community. Jim Pona is an AICP certified land use and transportation planner and a cofounder of Trailnet. With 35 years of public, not-for-profit, and private sector experience, Jim has dozens of bicycle facility plans to his credit. He counts the late namesake of this award among his friends. Trailnet is proud to salute Jim Pona with this special award.
