Summary: |
|
The Laclede Power Center, located at the start of the Riverfront Trail in downtown St. Louis, is being renovated to serve as the main “gateway” to The Confluence and as a trailhead for the Riverfront Trail. The building will be an ideal location for bicyclists, in-line skaters, joggers, hikers, fishermen, history enthusiasts, and nature watchers to enjoy one of the planet’s largest river systems. |
| History: |
|
The Laclede Power Building was designed by Muran, Russell & Garden, and was constructed in 1901 to distribute electricity for the 1904 World’s Fair. It was converted from a power plant to a transformer and switch house in 1945 and was decommissioned in 1978. Trailnet became involved in the project in 2001 when it purchased the building from Trigen St. Louis Energy Corporation. |

RiverView Park at Laclede Power
Trailnet broke ground for this new park on November 9, 2007. The park, situated on a hill at the downtown entrance to the Riverfront Trail, will provide spectacular views of the Mississippi River and will feature an outdoor amphitheater, turtle sculpture by Bob Cassilly and water features evocative of our Great Rivers. Funding for the park has been generously provided by The Mysun Foundation and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
Sunny Glassberg of the Mysun Foundation stated, "This park is really a gift to myself. I can see in the future that children, their parents and visitors to the St. Louis downtown area will come here and love it. I am very touched and proud to have been able to make River View Park happen."
