MetroBikeLink

Summary:

MetroBikeLink, a 4-mile asphalt multi-use trail, is a major east-west trail in the metro-east region providing the backbone for the St. Clair County trails system. The trail is fully integrated with the MetroLink light rail system, with bike racks at park & ride lots and the ability to take bikes on MetroLink allowing trail users to commute to work completely on the trail and ride or walk portions of their commute.

History:

The project began in 1996 with a study to assess trail alignment parallel to the MetroLink light rail system extending from the 5th & Missouri station in East St. Louis, Illinois to College station in Belleville, Illinois. Construction was initiated in 1999 on the first four-mile section of trail, from College station to North End Park in Belleville, and this section was opened in 2001. Engineering has been completed for the second section of trail extending from North End Park to Memorial Hospital station in Belleville, Illinois.
