Bicycling and walking are used as the major forms of transportation throughout much of the world. These alternatives to motorized transportation are becoming increasingly popular in the U.S. for a variety of reasons, including the benefits they offer to the environment, to personal health and to community health.

In this section we provide information about why alternative transportation is important, safety information, how to’s and information about the infrastructure and facilities that are critical to safe and convenient alternate transportation. We also provide information about our Alternative Transportation events - including Bike Month in May - and we include best practices links as additional resources.
