Bicycling and walking are used as the major forms of transportation throughout much of the world. These alternatives to motorized transportation are becoming increasingly popular in the U.S. for a variety of reasons, including the benefits they offer to the environment, to personal health and to community health.

In this section we provide information about why alternative transportation is important, safety information, how to’s and information about the infrastructure and facilities that are critical to safe and convenient alternate transportation. We also provide information about events and presentations that we host throughout the St. Louis bi-state area, we share stories about real people that often choose biking and walking as their preferred modes of transportation, and we include best practices links as additional resources.
