2019 Katy Wine Tour

October 20 @ 8:00 am - 3:00 pm

Enjoy Missouri wine country at its very finest at one of our most scenic rides. You’ll experience autumn trees in their full splendor while visiting up to three wineries, including Lake Creek, Mt. Pleasant or Sugar Creek.

Registration begins at 8:00 AM, but most of the wineries on the route do not open till 11 AM (all open at 11, except Blumenhof, which opens at noon). Please keep this in mind when planning your ride. If you decide to leave right at 8:00 AM, you’ll most likely not be able to go into any of the wineries. We suggest leaving between 9:30 – 11:00 to make sure you can experience all the great wineries this area has to offer.

  • Note: We’ve extended the registration window to 11:00 AM, so there’s no need to start in the cold.

NOTE: A majority of the routes will be on the Katy Trail, so make sure to bring an appropriate bike for the trail. A gravel or hybrid bike (or one with wider tires) would suffice.

ALSO the long route (38 miles) will come off the Katy Trail, so if you decide to do this route be prepared for road riding.

For more information on the Katy, consult their FAQ’s page here

Registration price include two wine tasting tickets for Defiance Ridge Vineyards. Please note the kitchen for Defiance Ridge closes at 4:00 PM and the business closes at 5:00 PM.

Terrain: Flat to hilly, some big hills going in and out of wineries and around Klondike Park

Mileage: 6, 20, 31, or 38

Wineries for each route:

  • 6-mile: Sugar Creek
  • 20-mile: Sugar Creek & Mt. Pleasant (option of Augusta Winery)
  • 31-mile: Sugar Creek & Mt. Pleasant (turn around point is close to Blumenhof Winery)
  • 38-mile: Sugar Creek, Mt. Pleasant, and Lake Creek (with option of Augusta Winery)

Lockwood Ave, St. Louis 18, 26, 30 This ride heads westward from the shop, and uses cycling compatible roads in Webster Groves, Kirkwood, and Ladue. There are three different start times to accommodate beginner, intermediate, and advanced riders. Many newer riders advance through the groups as their familiarity and riding skills grow. It is a ride intended for riders on road bikes, so hybrid and off-road bike riders will usually find their bikes’ wider tires make it hard to keep up the pace of the road bikes. There is no sag vehicle, but there is generally a shop-staff rider to help in case of mechanical trouble. Complimentary bagels and coffee served after the ride. For more ride information, click here.

Lockwood Ave, St. Louis 12 – 15 For women only, and is intended for those who are new to road riding in general and especially those who are new to riding with traffic. It is a no-drop ride, so no one will end up riding alone! Hub friend, and local road rider Sandi Barrett will lead the group and will focus on fun and learning as the miles fly by! The women’s ride is intended for road bikes, so hybrid and off-road bike riders may find their wider tires make it hard to keep up the pace of the group.
