Did you know that nearly a third of people living in the United States do not drive? Across the country, people with disabilities, young people, seniors, and those who can’t afford a car or gas rely on walking, rolling, public transit, or catching a ride.
National Week Without Driving, organized by America Walks and Disability Rights Washington, showcases a unified effort to experience the world through the lens of non-drivers across the nation. Participants are encouraged to engage in all their daily activities without driving themselves — employing any other form of transportation from September 29 – October 5, 2025.
We understand that it can be difficult to navigate the world without driving. If you’re unable to avoid driving for the week, feel free to participate for a day! Consider swapping a few trips, inviting others to participate, and reflecting on the daily activities that would be difficult without driving.
