Trailnet Rides Coordinator Internship – Part-time, Seasonal
About Trailnet
Trailnet is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization with a 36-year history of advancing St. Louis as a place where walking, bicycling, and the use of public transit are a way of life. Trailnet brings people together throughout the bi-state region with a variety of supported bicycle rides — including the Trailnet Classics series — educational events, and advocacy programs.
Trailnet Classics are supported, single-day, multi-distanced bike rides around the St. Louis region. Every ride includes:
– Marked routes, maps, and turn-by-turn navigation
– Multiple rest stops with water and snacks
– Support (SAG) vehicles on the route to assist with mechanical and basic first aid issues
Trailnet Partnership & Community Rides are guided, slow-paced, group bike rides that explore the history and culture of the St. Louis Community. Often the rides coincide with a local event.
Overview
The Trailnet Rides Coordinator is integral to the planning and success of the Trailnet Classics Rides. The Rides Coordinator is primarily responsible for coordinating and managing Rides volunteers, working with the Special Events Manager and Rides Director(s) to plan and execute rest stop setup, management, and route marking. The Rides Coordinator maintains the highest standards for volunteer/participant safety and a positive event experience.
Successful candidates will be self-motivated, team-centric, strategic, friendly, detail-oriented, and highly organized. Familiarity with cycling events in the St. Louis metropolitan area is preferred. This seasonal, hourly position is designed to build event management skills and is particularly designed to benefit sports management majors.
Key Responsibilities:
Logistics Support
- Coordinate and assist the Events Manager and Ride Director(s) with planning and logistics, specifically day of execution
- Work all Trailnet Classics Rides events and preparation days before the event (see Time Commitment below)
- Assists with marking routes, signage placement, and removal of post-event
- Prepare rest stop equipment and supplies and pack and load van/trailers.
- Hauling supplies to and from the event footprint
- Execute Rest Stop set up and break down on event day
Volunteer Management
- Recruit event volunteers and assist with volunteer communications
- Assist the Event Manager with volunteers before and during events to deliver instructions and answer questions
- Volunteer stewardship including thanking, recognition for work, and seeking feedback to improve the experience
- Assures rest stop volunteers have all the information, resources, and tools to run a successful rest stop
- Seeks ongoing volunteer feedback and shares with the rides team for improved processes
Participant Registration & Communications
- Create and manage outgoing communications to event participants
- Coordinate with the Trailnet Marketing and Communications Team to determine how and when to distribute certain communications
- Assist with strategy for marketing communications for rides
- Assist the Membership Coordinator in administering rides-related membership benefits, including free ride vouchers
- Familiarization and use of Run Sign Up, Trailnet’s online software program including rides website development, event communications, participant management, registration, sponsorship recognition, and volunteer management
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Must complete a background check and driving record screening
- Ability to lead others, provide great customer service, analyze situations and make sound decisions, organize people and processes, be friendly, approachable, and dependable
- Recruitment, training, and relationship building experience preferred
- Must be available for all event weekends and the days before event day to prepare equipment and supplies
- Attend meetings with the Rides Team to discuss and strategize event logistics
- Comfortable driving larger vehicles (Passenger vans, U-Hauls, etc.)
- Comfortable pulling and demonstrated ability to back up a cargo trailer
- First aid and CPR training – may be completed 30 days after hire
- Able to safely and comfortably lift 50 lbs
Time Commitment:
The schedule is flexible with a heavier workload on event weeks. Depending on the event, off-weeks will be approximately 20-25 hours, whereas event weeks will consist of 35 + hours. Total seasonal hours are expected to be approximately 500-600, depending on assignments.
A full day of route marking, usually two days before the event
1-2 warehouse preparation days the week before the event day
Very early call times, with some as early as 4 a.m. Depending on the event, lodging may be provided for the night before, particularly for events farther from St. Louis City
Long hours on event days; up to 14 hours in some cases.

Physical Demands:
These include stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, grasping, pulling, pushing, standing for long periods, carrying, and lifting light loads (up to 50 lb); working outside in non-air conditioned settings and possibly in inclement weather.
Compensation and Commitment:
This is a part-time seasonal position lasting from April through mid-October. The salary is $15/hour. Total seasonal hours are expected to be approximately 500-600, depending on assignments.

Community Outreach Specialist
Trailnet is hiring a Community Outreach Specialist to Highlight Trailnet’s Mission and assist with a grant-funded project to educate drivers about the new Hands Free Driving law in the state of Missouri. In 2023, Missouri became the 49th state to pass a hands-free driving law.
Part time, seasonal, 2-6 hours per event averaging around 5 events per year, $20/hour through December 2025.
