2024 St. Louis Crash Report

2024 was the deadliest year on record for pedestrians in both the City and the County; 23 pedestrians were killed in St. Louis City, and 36 in St. Louis County.

We’ve found that high speeds on overly-wide arterial roads, inadequate pedestrian crossings, and a lack of bike facilities are a particularly dangerous combination all throughout St. Louis.

These and other key insights are featured in Trailnet’s 2024 St. Louis City & County Crash Report — a snapshot and analysis of traffic violence in the region and our progress toward safer streets.

“Each data point in this report represents a life lost or permanently altered,” said Cindy Mense, CEO of Trailnet. “Preventing future tragedies requires a collective commitment — from drivers who must slow down and stay focused, to policymakers and engineers who must design and fund streets that prioritize the safety of everyone, especially those outside of cars.”

Our past Crash Reports have supported local transportation agencies in prioritizing and justifying safety improvements, equipped journalists with accessible statistics to enhance their reporting on traffic violence, and helped drive systemic change across the region.

We hope this year’s report is equally impactful. We encourage everyone to use these statistics to advocate for safer streets for all users in their own community.

The report is based on data from the Missouri Statewide Traffic Accident Records System, which catalogs reported crash information from law enforcement agencies across the state.
